Choose to Remember the Light
By Guy Finley

Radio Host of: "Guy Finley Live"
3rd Tues., Every Month, 9am PT

The Wise Ones have always taught the great gift of remembering the Living Light and the practice of placing ourselves in its presence before we embrace anything else. Of course the elevated nature of this kind of remembrance in the face of our trials requires our deliberate and conscious willing of it; but, to paraphrase St. Augustine, "My remembrance of thee is really an effect of thee remembering me." Which means that everything about Reality is already set up to help us succeed with our new aim.

So, in that same moment when you realize that something painful from your past has again pressed its way into you, holding you hostage to a hated image or painful regret, here is what to do: right there, right in that Now, instead of capitulating into that familiar state of feeling yourself to be a captive of what this pain tells you that you must remember (along with all of its suggested solutions for ending the suffering), you choose to remember the Light. Here is a quick look at what this new inner action entails.

Instead of being drawn into a struggle with that unwanted sense of conflict, complete with its cast of supporting characters drawn from your past, intentionally withdraw your attention from that stage show. And at the same time as you close the curtain on it, bring all of your reclaimed attention into the Now. Come awake to the sense of your own physical body. Observe what thoughts and feelings are pressing themselves into your awareness and, while working in the Now like this, welcome into you a conscious remembrance of the Light, of God's Life, of the whole truth as best you understand it.

To help get you started, here are a few other suggestions. When an angry thought flashes in your mind, accompanied by the fiery sensations born of recalling some injustice done to you in the past, instead of remembering the resentments this little image stirs in you, turn the tables on it. Bring its little troubled life into your remembrance of that greater presence within you that dwells well beyond its punishing power. Work like this whenever you can and, like a pebble tossed into a deep pond, the ripple effects of that past pain will simply disappear into the healing nature of the Now. Instead of a life of endless resistance, you will learn the timeless secret of how to replace any form of darkness with the Light you have chosen over it.

Choose to remember the Light. Let it fight for you. Not only will this Living Intelligence lift you above the fray of all that should be forgotten, but it also will guide you back home to a timeless place in yourself where the past no longer dwells.

AUGUST
HOST OF THE MONTH:

Nancy Lee
of  "Lights On"
Mondays, 11 am PT

Each month we focus on one of our radio hosts, and this month we are talking to President of SPRE, author, radio host, lecturer and psychic - Nancy Lee.

HL-What is most important to you and why? Evolving my soul so that I can help others to evolve their soul growth so that together we can be effective as a collective whole to help the planet.
HL-How & When did you discover you were Psychic?
As a child I saw things from other eras and other beings. Although it took until the late 1980s before I came out of the closet. I could no longer hide being psychic because I was not being my true self.
HL-What are some of your hobbies?
I love to read, walk in the mountains, go to the movies, play with my grandson and my dogs.
HL-What do you do when you are not on radio?
I am currently President of SPRE (Society for PSI research & Education). I also have a holistic Psychotherapist spiritual consultant client practice and am a lecturer and an author. My two current books are: "Voices of Light" and "Awakening the Mystic".
HL- What is your biggest challenge in life and how do you overcome it?
Remembering that I am more than my human experience. To overcome and get centered I walk in nature, connect with people I love and do random acts of kindness.
HL-What benefit do you want listeners to get from your show?
To realize that they are much more than they have ever realized and that they are important, necessary and here for a purpose.
HL-What can we expect on your future radio shows?
More of the dynamics of how the world is transforming on a social, environmental and scientific level to reach our spiritual destiny.
HL-If you could be another HealthyLife Host who would it be and why? Walter Cruttenden. I think its so cool because his research is exciting, fascinating and really great work. To understand the cyclical changes connecting the planetary system as it relates to the eras of humanity allows us to see the broader picture that we are all part of creation and re-creation.

Grilled Portabella Mushroom Tacos
with Red Beet Salsa

by Ken Berry and Dawn Mechin

Salsa
2 large beets
¼ tsp salt
2 scallions
¼ C diced Roma tomatoes
¼ C diced avocado
1 T chopped fresh cilantro
1 T chopped jalapeño pepper
Juice of 1 lemon
Sprinkling of salt and freshly-ground black pepper (to taste)

Tacos
1 medium red onion
2 cloves fresh garlic
Romaine lettuce
4 fresh portabella mushrooms
Juice of 1 lime
1 tsp chili pepper
Olive oil
Salt (to taste)
Freshly-ground black pepper (to taste)
2 T chopped fresh parsley
Corn or flour tortillas
Shredded cheese (optional; Monterey Jack is recommended)

Start with the salsa. Peel and dice beets, then boil or stream with ¼ teaspoon salt. When beets are tender, drain water and set beets aside to cool. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together and season with salt and black pepper. The salsa can be made a couple of hours in advance and set aside at room temperature. Note: Don't over-mix the salsa. For the tacos, slice onions ¼"-thick. Chop garlic. Shred lettuce. Before grilling and onion slices, marinate in garlic, lime juice, chili powder, and olive oil. Use enough olive oil to coat mushrooms thoroughly. Marinate for 30 minutes. Grill mushrooms and mushroom slices, and season with salt and black pepper. Make sure onions are tender before removing from grill. When mushrooms and onions are cooked, remove from grill and slice mushrooms into strips. Toss mushrooms and onions with parsley. Serve hot in warmed tortillas and top with shredded lettuce, red beet salsa, and shredded cheese (optional).

Says Dawn: "I love tacos. Finding a vegetarian alternative to beef and chicken was easy. Portabella mushrooms are a great substitute for meat. Grilling them not only adds to their flavor - it's fast and easy. Beets add a new twist to fresh tomato salsa; they're very flavorful. If you're not as fond of beets as I am, cooked carrots can also be used."
