Who is Jonathan Goldman...

Jonathan Goldman is a writer, musician and teacher. He is an authority on sound healing and a pioneer in the field of harmonics. He has studied with masters of sound from both the scientific and spiritual traditions, including the Dalai Lama’s Chanting Gyuto and Gyume Monks and has been empowered by the Chant Master of the Drepung Loseling Monastery to teach Tibetan Overtone Chanting. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Film Making from Boston University and a Master’s Degree in the Independent Study on Sound Healing from Lesley College. He is a lecturing member of the International Society for Music and Medicine. In Spring 2011, Jonathan was named as one of Watkin’s Reviews “100 Most Spiritually Influential People on the Planet.”

Jonathan is the director of the Sound Healers Association; the original organization dedicated to the education and awareness of sound and music for healing. He is also president of Spirit Music, which produces music for meditation, relaxation and self-transformation. Jonathan has created numerous cutting edge, best selling recordings including: “Chakra Chants” won the 1999 Visionary Awards for “Best Healing-Meditation Album” and “Album of the Year”, “2012: Ascension Harmonics” winner of the Visionary Award for “Best Healing-Meditation” in 2010. Defuse Any Difficult Moment With Another Person

Even the best relationships have moments of tension. A small disagreement turns into a fight. Eventually it blows over, but a negative habit has been strengthened, and it's only a matter of time before the next fight begins. But what if there were something you could do before the big blowup came? What if you knew a way to defuse the situation before the molehill became a mountain?

Here's one of my favorite relationship lessons that does just that. And by the way, for those of you who are religious or spiritually-centered, you'll find this idea lies at the heart of all true teachings about the deeper meaning of love.
To explain this new idea, I'll start with a question. Have you ever gone out with a group of people, maybe friends or business acquaintances, and just as you've finished eating, the waiter arrives with the bill? Nobody reaches for it. If you haven't made it clear ahead of time that you were going Dutch, or that someone was putting it on a business account, eventually someone has to take the lead. Maybe you get into a little tussle about who had what, when at some point someone says, "You know what? Look, let me get this one. This one's on me." And everyone at the table gives a small sigh of relief. What a powerful statement: "This one's on me."

Now, let's see the parallel when it comes to relationships. Here comes a moment of discomfort in the form of a disagreement between you and another person. Life has delivered a "bill" that must be paid. There's a disparity between two people that must be made right.Life is asking us, as human beings infused with what is divine, to do the divine thing, which is to say, "I will foot the bill this time. This one's on me." For example, let's say I'm negative about something you did. Usually I complain, blame, and get angry. I want you to pay for how I feel. I want you to see how wrong you are. I get sullen or irritated, hoping to make you change your attitude so that the ache in me will go away.

But now, I understand I can't change you. It's not just a mental affirmation. It's a weariness born of a deep-seated suffering that I've gone through five thousand times. I finally see that when I ask you to pay the bill, all that gets bred is resentment. So I'm going to step up and do the thing I never thought was possible: I'm going to use this moment of our relationship to let it reveal the parts of me that want to run away from seeing my fault in the situation. And then I'll pick up the bill. I will lay down my life.
In doing that I will be changed; I will feel a new power. At the same time, our relationship will be taken to a new level where awareness and responsibility strengthen our bond.

How beautiful that is. Scripture tells us that no greater love has a man or a woman than he or she who lays down their life for their brother. And their brother is not just their husband, their wife, their business partner, the stranger on the street. The brother is inside of us. It's the part of us that just wants to fight that is revealed in that moment, and is then transformed by our sacrifice.
If the moment presents something that brings conflict into my heart, my responsibility is to become aware of everything in my consciousness that wants to reject that revelation. Then, based on my new understanding, I'll pick up the tab. I'll let this moment change me by showing me who and what I've been until now. And instead of blaming another, I'll take the responsibility to make the reparation.

A new me is born because I've let the revelation in the moment produce the energy and the possibility for transformation that exists in no other moment, and in no other way. And we both benefit because of it.

The Healing Power of the Mind

"A picture is worth a thousand words." We have heard that saying before. This phrase is certainly true in the case of visualization. Visualization is a tool anyone can use to help foster healing. By providing positive pictures (creative imagery) and self-suggestion, visualization can change emotions that subsequently have a physical effect on the body.

OUR BELIEF SYSTEM
Our belief system is based upon the accumulation of verbal and non verbal suggestions that have been gathered throughout our life experience. Through patterns of repetition and its associated rewards and punishment we learn to create our own perception of reality. In essence, we therefore become what we think. In healing repetitive use of positive visualization allows access to the "mind-body"connection. This lets the mind and body work together to foster the healing process of the body on a physical level.

THE MIND-BODY CONNECTION
What is the mind-body connection and how does it work? When we have an emotion it generates a feeling that turns into a physical sensation. For example: You are watching a horror movie, you feel frightened and then get a chill up your spine. In this case you were getting a negative suggestion through your sensory perception (sight and sound), that produced an emotion of fear which turned into the physical sensation of chills up your spine. Visualization uses positive images to produce positive emotions that manifest into positive physical sensations in the body.
Sounds simple, but does it work?

WHAT WE THINK AFFECTS HEALING
Can what we think actually have an effect on healing? Bodies do react to the thoughts you make. Our psychological/emotional state affects the endocrine system. For example, the emotion of fear is related to adrenaline. If no feeling of fear exists there is no adrenaline and the same applies in reverse- no adrenaline, no fear. They work in relationship to each other. Wherever a thought goes there is a body chemical reaction.

The hypothalamus, the emotional center of the brain, transforms emotions into physical response. The receptor of neuropeptides, the hypothalamus controls the body's appetite, blood sugar levels, body temperature, adrenal and pituitary glands, heart, lung, digestive and circulatory systems. Neuropeptides, the chemical messenger hormones, carry emotions back and forth between the mind and body. They link perception in the brain to the body via organs, hormones and cellular activity. Neuropeptides influence every major section of the immune system, so the body and mind do work together as one unit.

THE BRAIN
The brain is a highly efficient system that is connected to every cell in your body by billions of connections. It is divided into two sides ñ the left, logical side (words, logic, rational thought) and the right creative side (imagination and intuition). Day to day circumstances usually are met in a logical, left brain mode; however by yielding to the right, creative side of the brain we actually restore balance in the brain. This allows us access to the mind-body connection to achieve what we want. The right side of the brain automatically steers you to your goal. It totally accepts what you want to accomplish without giving an opinion and acts upon it without judgment. That is why visualization targets the right side of the brain.

POSITIVE THOUGHT PRODUCES POSITIVE RESULTS
Positive thought is essential to producing positive results. Negative thoughts and emotions lower the immune system, while positive emotions actually boost the immune system.

HOW TO USE VISUALIZATION AS A MIND EMPOWERING TOOL
The following are required to use visualization as a mind empowering tool to support the healing process:

1. Define Your Specific Intention
Visualization puts your intention of what you want to work. Remember whatever you believe is what your body will do. The more specific the intention, the more specific the results. Make sure your intention is:

• Clear
• Specific
• Achievable
• You feel, know and trust it is being accomplished.

2. Take Responsibility
Trying to do visualization without taking responsibility will prove to be futile experience. To accomplish what you want you must take action and responsibility. Visualization usually takes about 6 weeks to work and is done once in the morning and before bedtime. Some people do see and feel results the very first time. Remember everyone's body and mind are different and so is the way they process information. Responsibility is:
Be accountable to and for yourself.

• Make a commitment
• Do visualization regularly
• Be persistent and patient
• Keep positive

3. Get Mentally Relaxed
A relaxed state allows you direct access to your subconscious mind. Here are some steps to help you relax:

• Find a quiet place. Relax in a favorite chair or lie down.
• Get comfortable and loosen clothing
• Uncross your arms and legs
• Get centered by focusing on the breath and breathing (this activates the vagus nerve which is the major quieting nerve in the body)
• Totally relax your body and mind .

4. Visualize
Visualization for healing is a simple process. Once you are relaxed the next step is to actualize your visualization.

• Think of or speak your intention out loud
• Close your eyes and imagine yourself in the healing process or as you want to be.
• Watch as your body heals you, see yourself whole and healthy.
• Feel the healing taking place
• Know and Trust the healing is being accomplished

If you have difficulty you may want to try one or more of these methods:

• Use creative imagery like seeing the cells in your body healing you; your immune system fighting off invaders; your pain being taken away by the healing mind
• Imagine yourself in a very beautiful place whole, healthy and happy.
• Try reading scripts from a visualization or self-hypnosis book
• Listen to an audiovisualization tape. Remember many people use hearing as their main method of sensory perception for learning.
• Try making your own tape in your own voice.

Visualization does work to help boost your body back to health. Don't just work on the body, add the mind to maximize your healing process with visualization.

Recipe of the Month

Cabbage MacSoup

Cooking Time: 3 1/2 - 4 hours, 1-Soup Pot

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 1/2 lbs flank steak (cut in 1"cubes)
8 1/2 cups cold water
1 tablespoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 1/2 cups chopped tomatoes
1 large onion (minced)
1 bay leaf
1 clove of garlic (minced)
1 medium head green cabbage
1 tablespoon lemon juice or apple cider vinegar

In a large soup pot add oil and heat.
Add flank steak and brown on all sides.
Add water, salt, pepper, tomatoes, garlic and spices.
Bring to a fast boil.
Turn down heat, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
Coarsely shred cabbage.
Add shredded cabbage, lemon juice or vinegar.
Gently simmer for an additional 1 1/2 hours.

SOUP HINT: If any soup is too salty, add a slice of raw potato and let soup boil for twenty minutes; then remove the potato slice.

Even so, it came as surprise to me recently when the Great Pumpkin Supreme and his good pal Charlie Brown showed up in my dreams. I had been pondering over over a problem, seeking direction, when a familiar-sounding voice arose. 'What would the Great Pumpkin do? ' Yikes! That's Charlie Brown. Now here before me was the pair. 'Go ahead,' said Charlie. Ask the Great Pumpkin your question.' So I did. Silence. 'Ask again,' urged Charlie. At last the Supreme Pumpkin offered his advice. 'I knew that,' I said. 'Of course you did.' he said.
