Who Is Emily A. Francis?

Emily A. Francis is a radio host, lecturer, clinical massage therapist, yoga enthusiast and an author of books and CDs for both children and adults. She has a BS in Exercise Science and Wellness with a minor in nutrition from Jacksonville State University where she was a collegiate cheerleader.

After college she worked in corporate wellness. She soon became an aerobic director, kickboxing instructor, yoga instructor as well as began practicing tai chi, kung fu and other martial arts. She is trained under Universal Yoga in Sivananda yoga. Her teacher, Dattatreya was the senior disciple to Swami Vishnudevananda who brought yoga from India to North America and was the senior disciple to Swami Sivananda himself. Emily holds a gold medal in the US Open in Tai Chi Form as well.

Emily has a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Wellness as well as a Master’s of Science in Physical Education with a concentration in Human Performance. Emily taught High School Health and PE and was the head of that department for a charter school before attending massage school. In 2004 Emily graduated from the Atlanta School of Massage in Clinical and Neuromuscular therapy. Immediately after she went on to study and complete the Dr. Vodder School International for Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapy (graduating in 2005 and completing recertifications with the school every 3 years since). Additionally she is also certified in the Vodder's kinesiotape training. Over the years since massage school Emily has taken courses in advanced TMJ dysfunction, MLD/CDT recertifications and has become a Certified Pediatric Therapist. Continuing education is extremely important to Emily and she tries to gather studies from far and wide. She completed the metaphysical doctorate program in comparative religion at the University of Sedona. Emily is a Usui & Karuna Ki Reiki Master level practitioner. Her training, background and practice in bodywork is immense and has earned her acknowledgement and respect in her community. Emily believes in a proactive and holistic whole body approach to wellness. You can find this through her bodywork as well as through her writing.

Emily has served as a guest lecturer at places including the Georgia Massage School, the Georgia State's Graduate Classes in Sports Medicine, and the Esani Institute. Emily also speaks regularly for the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance.

As an author, Emily's best selling The Body Heals Itself book teaches you how to listen to the 'Emotional Wisdom of Your Muscles to Experience a Deeper Level of Healing. 3 False Beliefs That Poison Our Relationshipsul

Here is a list of three false beliefs that betray our hearts and poison our relationships. The more aware we can become of these long-conditioned false beliefs and how they compromise our ability to have fulfilling relationships, the more freedom we will win from them:

False belief # 1: Our value as a person is determined by how others see us.
If we believe our individual worth depends on how others see us, we live with the fear of being judged by them, where trying to win their approval causes us to compromise ourselves again and again. People sense this kind of weakness in us, causing them to resist us, which in turn, makes us feel even "needier." The cycle deepens, things get worse. Here's the solution. Seeing its truth sets us free: we are not in this world to "win" what we believe we must to feel "good" about ourselves, but rather to realize that who we are - our True Self - is already whole, happy, and complete.

False belief #2: We are responsible for the happiness of others.
Each of us experiences disappointment and heartache in life. It's part of the process through which we learn to let go of unnecessary demands and false dependence on others. There's nothing any of us can do to determine the level of happiness of another. We may temporarily please them, but ultimately we are all responsible for ourselves. Even in the most loving relationship, each person is self-responsible. Don't let anyone else coerce you into believing their happiness depends on you. And don't you try to coerce anyone else.

False belief #3: We have to put up with and tolerate people who have made the choice to live with negativity and spread it to others.
If our partner is always spewing negativity on us, we should not act as though it's okay. We're not doing them, or ourselves, any favors by placating them or bowing to their negativity. If we don't learn "how to use" their negativity to strengthen ourselves, our own negative reaction to them will use us up. Instead, we can make up our mind that when we see our partner in that negative state, our attention will remain on our own reactions to them and not on the other person. This shift in attention helps us realize what it is we really need to be free of... "ourselves"! This helps keep us from getting dragged into their state. As a bonus, our new way of acting toward them may actually help them see themselves and give them a chance to come out of their negative state on their own.

When you work with these ideas you may make some discoveries that are difficult to bear. Welcome them instead of resisting your own reaction to them. As you do this you'll come to realize that your most important relationship in life is with the Truth that sets you free. Work on building that, and all your other relationships will benefit.

Finally, consider this last thought: The real source of our resentment toward others is not due to the power we think they have and hold over us; rather it arises from a secret weakness within us that keeps us believing that someone else holds the key to our well being.

Recipe of the Month


Lucky Lemon Cake

Oven Temperature: 375° F
Baking Time: 30 min., 2- 8" cake pans
Preparation: Grease baking pans.

2 cups flour blend (page )
1 1/2 teaspoons of xantham gum
1 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 cup butter (room temperature)
1 cup maple syrup
2 eggs (room temperature)
1 cup rice milk mixed with 1 tablespoon
fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon lemon extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Sift together flour blend, xantham gum, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, cream butter with maple syrup and honey using electric mixer on low-medium speed until well blended. Add eggs one at a time beating at medium speed after each one is added. Using an electric mixer at medium speed alternately add flour mix and rice milk mixture to creamed butter-maple syrup mixture, blend until smooth after each addition.Blend in lemon extract and vanilla. Pour batter into greased pans. For 2- 8" cake pans bake at 350° F. for 30 min. Cool cake on wire rack. When cake is completely cooled, put together with Lemon Filling and frost top and sides of cake with Vanilla Cloud Frosting.

Lemon Filling

5 tablespoons flour blend (page )
or 2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
2/3 cup water
1 eggs, slightly beaten (room temperature)
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
1 tablespoon butter (room temperature)

In top of double boiler combine flour (or cornstarch), maple syrup, salt and water. Cook over boiling water stirring constantly until thick. Then cover and cook for an additional 10 minutes. Stir a little of the hot mixture into the slightly beaten egg. Add and stir this beaten egg-hot mixture into the hot mixture and cook over simmering water for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Cool slightly. Add butter, lemon peel, lemon juice and lemon extract. Chill in refrigerator until completely cold before spreading between cake layers.

Vanilla Cloud Frosting

1 cup plus 2 tablespoons light ORGANIC corn syrup
2 large egg whites (room temperature)
1/8 teaspoon sea salt teaspoon lemon juice
1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla

Place corn syrup in saucepan and bring to boil stirring constantly. Place egg whites in a bowl. With electric mixer at high speed beat egg whites until they hold up in stiff peaks. Add salt and vanilla. Continue beating at high speed while slowly pouring hot mixture into egg white mixture. Continue beating at high speed until frosting is fluffy and spreadable. Frost completely cooled cake.
