HOST HAPPENINGS

HOST OF THE MONTH:

Joffre McClung
SPIRITUAL COMMONSENSE
1ST Mon, 2pm PT, 5pm ET

Who Is Joffre McClung?

Joffre McClung is a Spiritual/Personal Growth Author and Teacher, a host of Spiritual CommonSense on HealthyLife.net (as of 1/21), a Self-love Advocate, and an Independent Filmmaker. Joffre began her career as a theatre actress in New York City where she spent most of her adult life. Being someone “who never waited for permission to do anything,” she quickly put on her producing hat when auditioning was taking a back seat to performing and mounted several Off-Broadway productions, in which she acted as well produced.

After a short film she was the lead actress in, and co-produced as well, won the Grand Prize and Best Actress Award in the Lille, France’s Festival Du Court De Villeurbanne, she switched her focus to film. An avid student of spiritual literature and techniques since the early 1980s, Joffre taught herself filmmaking and formed Sweet Moon Pictures Production Company back in the 1990s. She wrote, produced, and directed two independent films with spiritual themes or undertones: Out of the Blue (1995) and Best Wishes (2002; winner of the “Spirit of the West Award”). Before moving back to Texas to care for her dying mother, she worked as a senior producer and director for a media broadcast production company in New York City for over fifteen years.

Uprooting her life in New York City to return to Texas to help her mother deal with terminal cancer was an intense experience, but Joffre did the only thing she knew to do and used her personal experiences as a tool for spiritual growth. Immediately after her mother’s passing, Joffre found out that her life-long best friend Rob was also diagnosed with cancer.

Instead of allowing these back-to-back tragedies to destroy her emotionally, Joffre went inward to find the strength and techniques that would help her heal emotionally, and find the lessons in these painful experiences that would not only allow her to go on with her life but to make the most of it. She did not know at the time how these experiences would change the direction of her life.

Joffre, who had only shared her spirituality through her fiction films, was compelled to write her first non-fiction book, HOW LEARNING TO SAY GOODBYE TAUGHT ME HOW TO LIVE/Balboa Press, as her friend was nearing the end of her life. Starting out as a journal, it quickly became an inspirational memoir of finding the strengths in the lessons and gifts available during times of loss and grief.

The experience of sharing her personal spiritual path with others was so fulfilling that she could no longer deny that her life was taking a new direction even though it was one she would not have fathomed just two years earlier. Joffre’s new book, THE HEART OF THE MATTER (A Spiritual Workbook and Guide to Finding Your Way Back to Self-love)/ Balboa Press, was born out of the work she did within to heal her wounds and beliefs of the past and move successfully into self-love. She is now working to rewrite her second book to include her story of how bullies took her self-love and what she learned from them. She also working on another book highlighting her “This Inspires Me” segments from her radio show.

Abandon the Constructs of Thought
by Guy Finley -
Radio Host of  "Letting Go"
Tuesdays, 6pm PT

Imagine for a moment you're driving home from work, or wherever you've been, and that you've just come from having a pretty rough day. As you drive along, your eyes see the road before you, but your mind is in the past. It's very busy re-running all of the day's unpleasant events.

Over and over again, you feel that painful stab of some thoughtless remark someone cruelly blurted out, or the embarrassment of that stupid comment you made without thinking. And with each mental replay of this unpleasant scene, you go deeper and deeper into thought, desperately trying to find a way to escape what seems an intolerable situation.

But what you don't see happening to you is that the more you think, the more you sink! Exactly the opposite of what you think you're accomplishing. And the deeper you sink in thought, the less you're able to see what the rest of you is doing.

Driving recklessly, speeding, missing the exit you want - these, and other equally dangerous stunts, are only a few of the foolish things that happen to you while driving under the influence of a stream of self-compromising, self-wrecking thoughts.

Your life, in moments such as these, is actually out of your hands. It belongs to your thinking, to the "me-first" mind. This undeveloped nature doesn't understand what it's doing to itself, or to you, as it struggles to find a way out from under the weight of its own unconscious actions.

What the "me-first" mind doesn't understand is that freedom is a state of being; the relief it seeks can never be a creation of thought. But there's good reason for this lower nature's ignorance, as well as for its covert efforts to keep us asleep in a similar state.

The "me-first" mind is out of business the moment we wake up to realize that free is what we are each time we can catch ourselves about to build another prison out of thought. Our awakened awareness instantly cancels our captivity. And as our self-created bondage fades, so does our desperate need to escape! What this lower consciousness doesn't want us to know is that we are already free.

Healing Power of The Mind
Linda Mackenzie, C.ht. P.h.D. (c)

"A picture is worth a thousand words." We have heard that saying before. This phrase is certainly true in the case of visualization. Visualization is a tool anyone can use to help foster healing. By providing positive pictures (creative imagery) and self-suggestion, visualization can change emotions that subsequently have a physical effect on the body.

Our belief system is based upon the accumulation of verbal and non verbal suggestions that have been gathered throughout our life experience. Through patterns of repetition and its associated rewards and punishment we learn to create our own perception of reality. In essence, we therefore become what we think. In healing repetitive use of positive visualization allows access to the "mind-body" connection. This lets the mind and body work together to foster the healing process of the body on a physical level.

What is the mind-body connection and how does it work? When we have an emotion it generates a feeling that turns into a physical sensation. For example: You are watching a horror movie, you feel frightened and then get a chill up your spine. In this case you were getting a negative suggestion through your sensory perception (sight and sound), that produced an emotion of fear which turned into the physical sensation of chills up your spine. Visualization uses positive images to produce positive emotions that manifest into positive physical sensations in the body.

Sounds simple, but does it work? Can what we think actually have an effect on healing? Bodies do react to the thoughts you make. Our psychological/emotional state affects the endocrine system. For example, the emotion of fear is related to adrenaline. If no feeling of fear exists there is no adrenaline and the same applies in reverse- noadrenaline, no fear. They work in relationship to each other. Wherever a thought goes there is a body chemical reaction.

The hypothalmus, the emotional center of the brain, transforms emotions into physical response. The receptor of neuropeptides, the hypothalmus controls the body's appetite, blood sugar levels, body temperature, adrenal and pituitary glands, heart, lung, digestive and circulatory systems. Neuropeptides, the chemical messenger hormones, carry emotions back and forth between the mind and body. They link perception in the brain to the body via organs, hormones and cellular activity. Neuropeptides influence every major section of the immune system, so the body and mind do work together as one unit.
The brain is a highly efficient system that is connected to every cell in your body by billions of connections. It is divided into two sides - the left, logical side (words, logic, rational thought) and the right creative side (imagination and intuition). Day to day circumstances usually are met in a logical, left brain mode; however by yielding to the right, creative side of the brain we actually restore balance in the brain. This allows us access to the mind-body connection to achieve what we want. The right side of the brain automatically steers you to your goal. It totally accepts what you want to accomplish without giving an opinion and acts upon it without judgement. That is why visualization targets the right side of the brain.

Positive thought is essential to producing positive results. Negative thoughts and emotions lower the immune system, while positive emotions actually boost the immune system.

The following are required to use visualization as a mind empowering tool to support the healing process:

Define Your Specific Intention

Visualization puts your intention of what you want to work. Remember whatever you believe is what your body will do. The more specific the intention, the more specific the results. Make sure your intention is:

  • Clear
  • Specific
  • Achievable
  • You feel, know and trust it is being accomplished.

Take Responsibility

Trying to do visualization without taking responsibility will prove to be futile experience. To accomplish what you want you must take action and responsibility. Visualization usually takes about 6 weeks to work and is done once in the morning and before bedtime. Some people do see and feel results the very first time. Remember everyone's body and mind are different and so is the way they process information. Responsibility is:

  • Be accountable to and for yourself
  • Make a commitment
  • Do visualization regularly
  • Be persistent and patient
  • Keep positive

If you have difficulty you may want to try one or more of these methods:

  • Use creative imagery like seeing the cells in your body healing you; your immune system fighting off invaders; your pain being taken away by healing mud
  • Imagine yourself in a very beautiful place whole, healthy and happy
  • Try reading scripts from a visualization or self-hypnosis book
  • Listen to an audiovisualization CD. Remember many people use hearing as their main method of sensory perception for learning.
  • Try making your own tape in your own voice.
Visualization does work to help boost your body back to health. Don't just work on the body, add the mind and spirit to maximize your healing process with visualization.

This information is intended for general information purposes only. Individuals with health problems should always seek their natural health care provider before administrating suggestions made above. Application of above methods is at the user's discretion and is totally their responsibility.
